Police Investigate Circumstances with Witnesses and District Councilor

The police have launched an investigation after a local councilor from the Democratic Party of Korea in Daegu was assaulted while campaigning.

According to the Gangbuk Police Station in Daegu on June 2, a report was filed at around 6:30 p.m. that day, stating that a male in his late teens, identified as A, assaulted a Democratic Party-affiliated member of the Buk-gu District Council who was campaigning on a road in Dongcheon-dong, Buk-gu.


It has been determined that A was circling the campaign vehicle at the Democratic Party's campaign site, shouting profanities, and then grabbed the councilor by the collar and struck him in the face when the councilor tried to stop him.


The assaulted councilor was confirmed not to have been seriously injured. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident by questioning A, the councilor, and witnesses.
