Han Donghoon: "People Power Party's Identity Is Not 'Defending' but 'Preventing' Illegal Martial Law"

Criticism of Yoon Sanghyun's Statement
on "People Power Party's Identity as Opposition to Impeachment"

Former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon stated on the 2nd, one day before the June 3 presidential election, "The identity of our party is not the defense of illegal martial law, but the prevention of illegal martial law."

On this day, Han wrote on Facebook, "Today, the day before the election, Election Committee Chairperson Yoon Sanghyun said that the roots and identity of the People Power Party are 'opposition to the impeachment of former President Yoon Sukyeol, who declared illegal martial law.'"

This was a rebuttal to the post made by Yoon, who serves as co-chair of the election committee, on Facebook the previous day, in which he criticized Emergency Response Committee Chairperson Kim Yongtae.

Yoon criticized Kim for stating that "the party's official stance of opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Sukyeol should be nullified," saying, "This is deeply regrettable," and added, "The moment we abandon our identity for the sake of the election, even the roots of our party will be shaken."

Yoon further stated, "Even if it is a desperate measure for election victory as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson, one should not cross the line of our party's roots and identity," and pointed out, "Declaring 'nullification' solely based on the chairperson's judgment, without any internal discussion, is self-denial that undermines the party's identity and invites confusion and division."

Lawmakers aligned with Han Donghoon have previously publicly criticized the inclusion of Yoon, who is considered part of the pro-Yoon Sukyeol faction, in the co-chair group of the election committee.
