Geomjun Industrial Complex in Yangju Designated as a Specialized Cluster
for Textile Root Industries
Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on June 2 that the Geomjun General Industrial Complex (hereinafter referred to as Geomjun Industrial Complex) within its jurisdiction has been officially designated as a specialized cluster under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's '2025 Specialized Cluster Designation and Support Project for Root Industries.'
This designation is expected to serve as a significant turning point for strengthening the competitiveness of the textile manufacturing sector in northern Gyeonggi's manufacturing industry and revitalizing the local economy.
'Root industries' refer to core process industries that form the foundation of the manufacturing sector, including casting, mold making, welding, plastic working, surface treatment, and heat treatment.
These industries provide essential foundational technologies required throughout the production processes of various industries, making them a crucial area that determines the quality and competitiveness of the entire industrial sector.
The Geomjun Industrial Complex was selected as a specialized cluster due to its excellent geographical accessibility to the Seoul metropolitan area, systematic infrastructure, and strong potential for inter-industry linkages.
In particular, the structure of the complex, which is home to a large number of textile-focused manufacturing companies, was highlighted as creating a favorable environment for future convergence and concentration of root technologies.
Yangju City plans to use this designation as an opportunity to secure national funding and actively promote joint innovation activities, including the establishment of shared facilities, eco-friendly and digital transformation, resource strategization, and manufacturing safety enhancement.
Through these efforts, the city aims to strengthen the competitiveness of root industries and lay the foundation for industrial advancement.
Lee Changyeol, Director of the Self-Sufficient City Division, stated, "The designation of Geomjun Industrial Complex as a specialized cluster for root industries will serve as a new milestone for the development of the local textile industry," adding, "We will create a sustainable industrial ecosystem where companies can grow and provide more high-quality jobs for our citizens."
