Gwangju City announced on June 2 that it was selected as the award-winning institution in the public administration sector at the "1st Local Government AI Innovation Awards" ceremony recently held at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, receiving the President Award of the Korea Local Information Development Institute.

The "Local Government AI Innovation Awards" were established to discover cases of AI-based administrative innovation in various fields such as public administration, social safety, economy and culture, and care and welfare among metropolitan and basic local governments across the country.

In August last year, the city introduced the "AI Dangjigi," an AI-based duty civil complaint response system, for the first time in the nation, abolished the previous employee-centered duty system, and received high praise for dramatically improving the convenience and efficiency of responding to civil complaints during nights and holidays.

"AI Dangjigi" operates by responding to duty-related civil complaint calls in real time, then automatically connecting callers to the relevant departments such as the five district offices and the General Construction Headquarters, or forwarding the details to the responsible department. This system has been noted for reducing inconvenience for citizens and increasing work efficiency. The city plans to use this award as an opportunity to further expand AI technology throughout its administration and provide efficient, smart, citizen-centered administrative services.

Hwang Inchae, Director of the General Affairs Division, said, "This award is a meaningful achievement that recognizes Gwangju City's efforts in administrative innovation using AI," and added, "We will continue to pursue smart administration that provides tangible benefits to citizens across various administrative fields."
