Wins Design Competition for Remodeling

Korea National University of Cultural Heritage announced on June 2 that the team of Gonggan Architecture & Engineers and Hanchang Architects & Engineers has been selected in the design competition for the remodeling of the former Buyeo Museum building. The winning entry is titled "Here and Now, Former Buyeo Museum." The project includes demolishing the expanded second-floor slab to restore the building as closely as possible to its original appearance at the time of construction. The spatial layout has also been redesigned to allow easier access to the immersive exhibition hall located in the basement.

The former Buyeo Museum is a work designed by Kim Swoo-geun (1931?1986), who is recognized as one of the first-generation modern architects in Korea. Since January of this year, Korea National University of Cultural Heritage has managed the building and plans to utilize it as an off-campus museum starting in 2027, following additional design, construction, and maintenance work.
