Year-Round Planned Exhibitions
Establishing Itself as a Cultural Haven
The Bitgaram Observatory in Naju, South Jeolla Province is being transformed into a civic cultural space where culture and art coexist.
On June 2, Naju City announced that it is strengthening the cultural function of its landmark Bitgaram Observatory by hosting year-round planned and themed exhibitions, offering a wealth of cultural and artistic content to both citizens and tourists.
Since February, the city has held an open call for exhibition space, recruiting a total of 19 teams interested in holding exhibitions. Participants range from individual artists to local art associations, presenting new curated exhibitions.
The current exhibition, "Breath of Nature, Lost Moments," runs until June 8 and features paintings that capture the delicate beauty of nature, attracting the attention of citizens and visitors alike.
Naju City is waiving exhibition room usage fees for participating artists, reducing the financial burden of creative activities. At the same time, the city is creating an environment where citizens can easily access and enjoy art.
This initiative is evaluated as not only enhancing the cultural value of the observatory but also playing a positive role in revitalizing local culture and the arts.
In the second half of the year, a variety of high-quality exhibitions are planned, including exhibitions by resident artists from creative studios and special exhibitions featuring professional artists, further expanding opportunities for everyday art appreciation.
Yoon Byungtae, mayor of Naju, stated, "We will continue to expand content so that Bitgaram Observatory can become more than just a viewing spot, evolving into a complex cultural space where culture flows and serving as an artistic haven that naturally blends into the daily lives of citizens."
