Simultaneous Drone and Ground Surveillance
All-Out Efforts to Prevent the Spread of Infected Trees in Advance
Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province completed its pine wilt disease control project by April this year, which included the removal of infected trees and tree injection (for prevention and treatment). This action was taken in response to the continued occurrence of a total of 11 pine trees infected with pine wilt disease from November last year to May 30 this year, mainly along the border with Yeongdeok County (Pyeonghae-eup and Hupo-myeon).
From June to August, Uljin County plans to operate a 'Forest Pest Surveillance and Control Headquarters.' Before the intensive pine wilt disease control period (from October to April of the following year) begins, the county will conduct thorough ground surveillance using forest pest monitoring staff and pine tree movement inspectors, as well as intensive precision surveillance throughout Uljin using drones. The aim is to ensure that no infected trees go undetected.
Additionally, any dead trees discovered during the surveillance process will be immediately tested for infection and, if necessary, will be fully treated during the intensive control period.
County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "Early detection of pine wilt disease is of utmost importance. We will do our best to strengthen surveillance by making full use of all available resources and to ensure the complete treatment of all infected trees."
