Submissions Open Until July 31 for Ideas and Best Practices
for Library Services for People with Disabilities
On June 2, the National Library for the Disabled, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced that it will be accepting submissions for "Ideas and Best Practices for Library Services for the Disabled" until July 31. The initiative aims to contribute to the advancement of library services for people with disabilities nationwide and to help bridge the information gap for the disabled.
Now in its 18th year, this competition covers all areas that can contribute to the activation and development of library services for people with disabilities, including technology, spaces, and programs. It consists of two categories: the "Idea" category, open to all citizens, and the "Best Practice" category, open to libraries that actually operate services for people with disabilities.
After an initial document screening, a second round of in-person evaluations, and a public verification process, the six final winning entries will be announced in September. The grand prize winner will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a cash prize of 1.5 million won. Two excellence awards will be given the Director of the National Library for the Disabled Award and a cash prize of 1 million won each, while three encouragement awards will also receive the Director of the National Library for the Disabled Award and a cash prize of 700,000 won each. The winning entries will be posted on the website of the National Library for the Disabled and will serve as reference materials for planning and operating services for people with disabilities at libraries across the country.
Further details about the competition and application forms can be found on the website of the National Library for the Disabled.
