Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced on June 2 that the GIST Development Foundation donated the first sales proceeds of 10 million won from the on-campus pop-up store 'GeniusCOOP' to GIST's '1,000 Won Breakfast' program.
'GeniusCOOP' is a pop-up store planned and operated by the GIST Development Foundation, reflecting GIST's symbolic identity and brand value. It has contributed to promoting the school brand and spreading campus culture not only among GIST members but also to campus visitors. This donation is especially meaningful as it goes beyond a simple profit-making activity and has become a tangible welfare benefit that students can directly experience.
The donation ceremony was held in the GIST Second Student Union Building on the morning of June 2, attended by President Kicheol Lim, key university officials, members of the Development Foundation board, and student representatives. The attendees shared a '1,000 Won Breakfast' together in the student cafeteria, reaffirming the significance of a virtuous cycle in which sales profits are reinvested into student welfare.

The '1,000 Won Breakfast' program provides students with a nutritious breakfast for just 1,000 won, helping them develop healthy eating habits and improve academic concentration. It is one of GIST's most popular student welfare programs, consistently receiving strong support from students.
Haemyung Kim, Chairperson of the Development Foundation, said, "I am very pleased that the meaningful first proceeds from GeniusCOOP have been used to provide breakfast for students," and added, "We will continue to make various efforts to establish this as a sustainable support model."
Kicheol Lim, President of GIST, stated, "This sponsorship is more than a simple donation; it is a great example of providing tangible benefits to students and demonstrating the campus culture that GIST members create together. Going forward, we will continue to expand various donation programs in cooperation with the Development Foundation that students can truly feel."
