SK Telink Partners with Starlink to Become a Key Player in the Low Earth Orbit Communications Market

Official Reseller of Starlink Korea
Utilizing SK Group's Advanced ICT Technologies
Enhancing Disaster Safety Infrastructure in Island and Mountainous Regions

SK Telink is set to make a significant move that could reshape the satellite communications market in Korea by launching the commercial domestic service of the global low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications service, Starlink.

SK Telink Partners with Starlink to Become a Key Player in the Low Earth Orbit Communications Market

On June 2, SK Telink announced its strategy to become a leader in the high-speed satellite communications market by shifting the paradigm of the domestic satellite communications market to a low Earth orbit-based system. This follows the approval of SpaceX's cross-border supply agreement on May 30 and SK Telink's role as the official reseller of Starlink Korea.

Since signing a reseller agreement with Starlink in 2023, SK Telink has completed system integration with Starlink and has been strengthening its business capabilities in sales, technical support, and customer management to facilitate the introduction and utilization of LEO satellite communications services in Korea.

Starlink provides high-speed, low-latency satellite internet services worldwide by utilizing thousands of satellites orbiting in low Earth orbit. It achieves latency levels about one-tenth of traditional geostationary satellites and offers data speeds exceeding 250 Mbps. Starlink is characterized by its ability to deliver stable and fast communication quality not only to mobile platforms such as ships and aircraft, but also in geographically challenging areas.

Even in situations where terrestrial networks are compromised or normal data usage is difficult?such as during fires, landslides, earthquakes, wars, or civil unrest?communication services can still be accessed via satellite.

With the introduction of Starlink services in Korea, SK Telink plans to propose customized adoption programs and case studies for LEO satellite communications services to customers across all sectors, including both private and public domains, as well as existing markets such as maritime vessels and aircraft. The company will sequentially expand its product lineup to meet the specialized needs of various industries, including dedicated maritime and aviation packages, exclusive plans for public institutions, and combinations of fixed and mobile terminals.

Additionally, leveraging SK Group's advanced ICT technologies, SK Telink will offer a range of intelligent satellite communication services such as AI-based information analysis, CCTV safety management solutions, and robust security solutions integrated with quantum cryptography technology.

SK Telink will also accelerate projects to build disaster response communication networks in collaboration with public institutions and local governments, targeting vulnerable sites such as island and mountainous regions where existing communication networks are easily paralyzed during disasters. The company aims to enhance the stability of communication networks and advance disaster safety infrastructure, thereby contributing to a safer Korea.

Lee Sinyong, Head of the Satellite Business Division at SK Telink, emphasized, "Low Earth orbit satellite communications will be a game changer that takes Korea's telecommunications infrastructure to the next level. We will establish ourselves as a key player leading the LEO satellite communications market, focusing on high value-added sectors such as maritime, aviation, plant, public, and disaster safety."

Currently, SK Telink has established an integrated support system that covers the supply, installation, operational training, and maintenance of dedicated Starlink service terminals. Based on its nationwide sales network and technical support personnel, the company provides customized satellite communication solutions to its customers.
