Held at the Maehun Yun Bonggil Memorial Hall Square
Seocho District in Seoul will hold the '2025 Seocho Veterans Culture Festival' on June 8 at the Maehun Yun Bonggil Memorial Hall Square to mark June, which is designated as the Month of Patriots and Veterans.
This event, held under the theme "We will repay your sacrifice and dedication with happiness in Seocho," is co-hosted and organized by Seocho District, Seocho veterans' organizations, and the Maehun Yun Bonggil Memorial Project Association. It is sponsored by Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Hoban Construction.
The festival will be divided into two parts: The first part is the 'Month of Patriots and Veterans Commemoration Ceremony,' and the second part is the 'Celebratory Concert for the Month of Patriots and Veterans and the 117th Anniversary of Yun Bonggil's Birth.' The first part, starting at 5:00 p.m., will feature a performance by the 52nd Division military band, a patriotic performance, and an award ceremony honoring distinguished members from nine veterans' organizations. The patriotic performance, jointly presented by the Department of Acting at Baekseok Arts University and the Smiling Child Musical Troupe, will use musical numbers from 'Hero' to dramatize episodes of national heroes such as Yu Gwansun and Yun Bonggil, delivering the meaning and message of veterans' honor to attendees.
The second part, the concert, will feature a diverse lineup of artists, including Park Gun, a former special forces soldier who reached the semifinals on 'Trot God is Here 2,' Kim Soyou, noted as a devoted daughter and singer through KBS's 'Human Theater,' the local youth arts group Musicals, the History Choir, and the VIVA Vocal Ensemble. These artists will provide both inspiration and enjoyment to the audience.
Prior to the ceremony, from 2:00 p.m., a total of 15 experience booths covering veterans affairs, welfare, and military units will operate as pre-event activities, creating a festive space where all generations, from children to seniors, can participate and enjoy together.
This year, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation and the 75th anniversary of the Korean War, the 'Children's Love for the Nation Drawing Contest' will also be held in Maehun Citizen's Forest next to the Maehun Yun Bonggil Memorial Hall. The contest is open to children attending local daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary schools, encouraging family participation and making the 'Veterans Culture Festival' a celebration for people of all ages.
Meanwhile, in February, Seocho District became the first basic local government to sign a business agreement with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, pledging to strengthen support for national merit recipients and to promote veterans' culture education. In addition, Seocho launched the nation's first 'Honors Club for All Veterans in Seocho,' taking the lead in spreading veterans' culture within the local community.
Seocho District Mayor Jeon Seongsoo stated, "Honoring and respecting the patriotic spirits who have made noble sacrifices for the country is the true mark of a dignified nation and city," adding, "We will continue to remember the noble sacrifices of our national heroes and strive to make veterans' honor a part of everyday life in our city."
