Participation of Local Mid-Sized Companies Leads to Success of Gyeongnam's Cultural Project
Policies Under Review to Hold International Choir Festivals
in Various Regions of Gyeongnam in the Future
The 1st Gyeongnam International Choir Festival concluded with an outdoor performance for local residents from May 29 to 31.
The festival, hosted by Gyeongnam Province and organized by the Gyeongnam International Choir Festival Organizing Committee, is being recognized as a successful event for choral culture.
The success of the first-ever international choir festival in Gyeongnam was made possible by the voluntary and dedicated proposals and participation of local mid-sized companies. Two years ago, Koo Jacheon, then chairman of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Shinsung Delta Tech in Changwon Industrial Complex, directly proposed to Gyeongnam Governor Park Wansu to host an international choir festival in Changwon, the center of mechanical engineering, as part of promoting a healthy cultural environment.
Governor Park, in response, decided to pursue this cultural project together with Gyeongnam Province and local companies, and began planning the event. Participating companies such as Shinsung Delta Tech, Beomhan Industry, Shinsinsa, Gyeongnam Steel, Seyoung, and Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital formed the organizing committee and prepared for more than two years.
At the opening performance on May 29, world-class choirs from the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and other countries each performed, and then joined together for a final rendition of Arirang, which was met with cheers from the 1,600 audience members in attendance.

On the 31st, at the final outdoor performance held at Changwon Sangnam Fountain Square, citizens who participated created a moving stage by singing and dancing together with the foreign teams. Notably, during the daytime over the three days, the foreign teams visited companies such as Shinsung Delta Tech, Beomhan Industry, and Shinhung Global, where they gave surprise performances and shared lunch, fostering a warm atmosphere of exchange.
Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province and host of the cultural event, stated, "With this international choir festival involving private companies, we will plan even higher-level international cultural events and establish policies to enjoy them together with the residents."
Koo Jacheon, chairman of the 1st Gyeongnam International Choir Festival Organizing Committee, said, "Many companies will participate so that the international choir festival can be held not only in Changwon, the center of mechanical engineering, but also throughout Gyeongnam, including Jinju and Gimhae."
