Dongsin University Department of Forest Landscape Architecture Selected for Final Round of Garden Dream Project Dongsin University Department of Forest Landscape Architecture Selected for Garden Dream Project.

Dongsin University announced on June 1 that it has been selected for the Jeonju region of the "2025 Garden Dream Project," organized by the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Arboretum and Garden Management Agency.

The Garden Dream Project is being carried out in five regions?Seoul, Daejeon, Sejong, Pyeongtaek, and Jeonju. A total of 25 teams (125 participants) were selected nationwide, with five teams chosen from each region. Each team, composed of university students majoring in garden-related fields, is paired with a professional garden designer who provides close mentoring throughout the entire process, from design and construction to maintenance.

The Department of Forest Landscape Architecture at Dongsin University proposed an idea titled "Eden's Resolve," suggesting the ecological transformation of unused urban spaces.

The project prioritizes responding to the climate crisis and restoring biodiversity. Its core elements include: planting tree canopies to mitigate the heat island effect; introducing rain gardens to restore water circulation; and designing an ecological structure centered on pollinating insects and native plants. The team consisted of five third-year students?Park Hyunseok, Noh Geonung, Kim Taegyeom, Cho Hyeongjun, and Jeong Soi?who put the value of ecological garden design into practice.

Through the project, the students experienced the entire process of planning and creating a practice garden in collaboration with a garden designer, thereby strengthening their practical skills. The students agreed that it was a valuable opportunity to directly learn hands-on know-how in construction and garden management?skills that are difficult to acquire through regular coursework.

Park Hyunseok, who served as the team leader for this project, said, "We have embodied the ideal of Eden, where nature and humanity coexist in harmony, within a modern urban space. I hope to convey that a park is more than just a landscaped area?it serves as a connection between citizens and nature."

Kim Minhee, head of the Department of Forest Landscape Architecture at Dongsin University, stated, "Through this participation, we will promote the spread of sustainable garden culture and the capabilities for ecological, practice-based garden design nationwide. I hope our students will grow into professionals with both ecological sensitivity and practical skills, as they directly participate in creating local gardens and implement a model of coexistence with the community."
