Lee Jaemyung Visits Hometown Andong, Vows to Be a President for All, Not a 'Half President' Dividing the People

Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, visited his hometown of Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, on June 1 and emphasized, "If you give me the opportunity, I will not be a 'half president' who relies on one side to oppress and divide the other, but I will surely become a president for all, uniting the people as one."

During a campaign rally held at Ungbu Park in Andong on the same day, Lee stated, "I was born in Andong and grew up drinking its water and eating its rice and grass. My parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and ancestors are all buried here, and I believe I too will be laid to rest in Andong. This place is both my starting point and my final destination."

Lee went on to say, "But why is it that the people of Andong, Gyeongbuk, and my hometown do not seem to view me favorably?" He then appealed for support, adding, "This time, it will be different, won't it?"

He continued, "In Yeongnam, the home of scholars, a military dictatorship took power and maintained long-term rule by dividing the people. Is it not regrettable that so many people became willing to vote for those who would sell out the country just because the dictatorship told them to?"

On the same day, Lee also wrote on Facebook, "Dochon-ri, Yaean-myeon, Andong-si, which is called the most remote of the remote areas even in Gyeongbuk. This is the very root of me, Lee Jaemyung." He emphasized, "For Lee Jaemyung, Andong is the seed of change and inclusion that transcends the walls of tradition and conservatism, and it is the starting point for a unified Republic of Korea."

He further asserted, "Just like former presidents Kim Daejung and Roh Moo-hyun, who confronted the divisive politics that split the country between Yeongnam and Honam, conservatives and progressives, I will continue on that path."
