Gyeongbuk Province announced that on May 30, Hyundai Mobis completed the construction of the Yeongnam Integrated Logistics Center in the Myeonggye 3 General Industrial Complex area of Naenam-myeon, Gyeongju.
The completion ceremony was attended by Lee Nameok, Director of Airport Investment Headquarters of Gyeongbuk Province; Park Seungjik and Choi Deokgyu, Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly members; Song Hojun, Deputy Mayor of Gyeongju; and Son Chanmo, Vice President of Hyundai Mobis, along with other officials, who celebrated the launch of this new logistics hub.
The completion ceremony of Hyundai Mobis Yeongnam Integrated Logistics Center is being held in Gyeongju.
The newly completed Yeongnam Integrated Logistics Center was established on a site of 80,972 square meters (24,494 pyeong) in Naenam-myeon, Gyeongju, with a total investment of 96.8 billion won from 2022 to the present.
By integrating and operating logistics hubs that were previously dispersed in Oedong, Naengcheon, and Gyeongsan, the center will supply parts from more than 270 automotive parts manufacturers in the Gyeongbuk region and distribute them nationwide. In particular, the center plans to introduce eco-friendly systems and automation technologies to respond to changes in the future automotive industry and maximize logistics operational efficiency.
The completion of the Yeongnam Integrated Logistics Center is the result of close cooperation between Gyeongbuk Province, Gyeongju City, and Hyundai Mobis, following the investment agreement signed on November 10, 2022, with all parties making every effort to provide administrative support such as permits and approvals.
The operation of the Yeongnam Integrated Logistics Center is expected to create numerous new jobs and generate additional indirect employment effects, thereby having a positive impact on revitalizing the local economy.
In addition, by integrating and streamlining logistics movements, the operational burden on companies will be reduced and supply chain efficiency will be enhanced, further strengthening the productivity and competitiveness of the regional industry as a whole.
Gyeongbuk Province and Hyundai Mobis plan to maintain a continuous cooperative system and spare no effort in supporting companies to utilize the logistics center efficiently. In particular, they plan to actively promote the establishment of advanced infrastructure to maximize the synergy of automotive industry and logistics innovation in Gyeongbuk Province.
Gyeongbuk Province and Gyeongju City also plan to attract new investments in the automotive parts sector in addition to the Yeongnam Advanced Logistics Center.
Currently, there are more than 600 automotive parts-related companies in Gyeongju, including Ecoplastic, MS Autotech, and Myungshin Industry. Last year, investment agreements were signed with a number of automotive parts companies, including Daeseongsa, a Hyundai Motor Group partner.
Going forward, Gyeongbuk Province plans to organically link the Gyeongju automotive parts industry, the Pohang secondary battery companies and battery resource recycling cluster, and the Gyeongsan next-generation wireless charging technology for electric vehicles, in order to maximize synergy effects among regional industries.
Through these efforts, Gyeongbuk Province aims to actively attract proactive corporate investment and to develop itself into a hub of the future mobility industry.
Lee Nameok, Director of Airport Investment Headquarters of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, "The completion of the Yeongnam Integrated Logistics Center will serve as an important milestone for Gyeongbuk to emerge as a hub of the automotive parts industry," adding, "Based on Gyeongbuk's strength in the automotive parts sector, we will continue to build an advanced industrial ecosystem that encompasses future mobility industries such as electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles."
