20th Anniversary This Year
Focusing on "Structural Shifts and Monetary Policy"
The Bank of Korea announced on June 1 that it will host the '2025 BOK International Conference' on the theme of 'Structural Shifts and Monetary Policy' over two days, June 2 and 3.
The BOK International Conference has been held since 2005 and marks its 20th anniversary this year. It is a venue where prominent figures from academia and policy circles at home and abroad gather to exchange views on major economic issues. This year, discussions will cover the latest research findings and policy cases related to monetary policy, including the inflation targeting system, demographic structure, fiscal issues, climate change, and the impact of AI technology on monetary policy, with the aim of drawing key implications.
During the opening session, Christopher Waller, a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, will deliver the keynote speech. He will then participate in a two-person policy dialogue with Bank of Korea Governor Rhee Changyong to discuss various monetary policy issues, including the outlook for the U.S. economy. The opening session will be broadcast live online via the Bank of Korea's YouTube channel.
This year's conference will feature a variety of programs, including five general sessions consisting of paper presentations and discussions, as well as a panel discussion with central bank governors and monetary policy experts. High-level officials from overseas central banks and international organizations, such as Eli Remolona, Governor of the Central Bank of the Philippines, Fatih Karahan, Governor of the Central Bank of T?rkiye, and Charles Evans, former President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will participate. Renowned scholars from abroad, including Thomas Sargent, Professor at New York University, Francesco Bianchi, Professor at Johns Hopkins University, and Shin Yongseok, Professor at the University of Washington, will also join.
Among domestic participants, Yoonje Cho, Distinguished Professor at Yonsei University and former Monetary Policy Board member (panel discussion moderator); Kiyoung Park, Professor at Yonsei University and former Monetary Policy Board member (panel discussion); and Sunyoung Park, Professor at Dongguk University (Session 3 moderator) will take part. From the Bank of Korea, Soohyeong Lee, Monetary Policy Board member (Session 2 moderator), and Jaewon Lee, Director of the Economic Research Institute (Session 5 moderator), will participate.
