Gimcheon City Saves 2.12 Million KRW in Electricity Costs in Five Months with Gaeryeong Landfill Solar Power Facility

Production of Eco-Friendly Energy Utilizing Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Site
Proven Economic Efficiency
Expected to Reduce Operating Expenses

Gimcheon City (Mayor Bae Nakho) announced on May 31 that the 15kW solar power generation facility installed on the roof of the Gaeryeong landfill transfer station has reduced electricity costs by approximately 2.12 million KRW over the past five months.

Gimcheon City Saves 2.12 Million KRW in Electricity Costs in Five Months with Gaeryeong Landfill Solar Power Facility Gimcheon City Captures Two Goals of 'Economic Efficiency' and 'Improved Environmental Facility Awareness' through Solar Power Generation Facility Installation at Landfill Site.

This solar power facility, which has been in operation since January, has produced a total of 4,590kW of electricity, and is expected to save about 5 million KRW in annual fuel costs. This is being recognized as a successful case of renewable energy production utilizing a municipal solid waste landfill site.

Amid rising energy costs, this project has demonstrated that introducing eco-friendly energy can reduce landfill operating expenses, and has shown that a landfill, once regarded as a source of environmental pollution, can be transformed into an environmentally friendly space.

Gimcheon City plans to continue expanding the installation of solar power facilities at environmental infrastructure sites to further reduce electricity costs and improve budget efficiency.
