City Will Provide Full Administrative Support and Honor the Bereaved Families
On May 30, Pohang Mayor Lee Gangdeok visited the joint memorial altar for the maritime patrol aircraft crash victims set up in the gymnasium within the Naval Aviation Command. He paid his respects and expressed deep condolences in honor of the fallen service members.

On this day, Mayor Lee was joined by Kim Ilman, chairman of the city council, Kim Jungjae, member of the National Assembly, Yang Geumhee, Gyeongbuk Province Vice Governor for Economic Affairs, senior officials from Pohang City, members of the Pohang City Council, and others, all of whom prayed for the deceased.
After paying his respects in accordance with the Navy funeral procedures in the afternoon, Mayor Lee stated, "I extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt comfort to the military personnel and their bereaved families who lost their precious lives in this sudden accident. The city will do its utmost to support the accident response and funeral procedures administratively, and to honor and care for the bereaved families."
Pohang City is maintaining close communication with the military and related organizations regarding this incident and is cooperating to ensure the accident response and investigation into the cause proceed smoothly.
In particular, the city plans to actively consult with the Ministry of National Defense and other agencies to establish measures to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
Additionally, the city has pledged to deeply empathize with the grief of the bereaved families and to make every effort to honor and support the service members so that their sacrifice is not in vain.
The funeral for the fallen service members will be held over three days, with the memorial ceremony scheduled to take place at the Naval Aviation Command on June 1.
