Medical School Admissions Quota for Next Year Set at 3,123...Down by 1,500 Students

An Increase of 10 Compared to 2024... Restored to Original Level
1,487 Fewer Than the Expanded 2025 Admissions Quota

The number of students to be admitted to medical schools for the 2026 academic year has been tallied at 3,123, returning to the 2024 level. This is about 1,500 fewer than this year, when the "medical school quota increase" was implemented.


On May 30, the Ministry of Education announced the finalized number of admissions for 39 medical schools, excluding CHA University, based on their 2026 university entrance plans. The total number of students to be admitted to these 39 medical schools next year is 3,123, which is a decrease of 1,487 compared to this year. This figure is similar to the 2024 admissions quota of 3,113.

Previously, the Ministry of Education had announced a plan to restore the medical school admissions quota to 3,058, the pre-increase level, on the condition that medical students return to classes. As of May 9, 42.6% of all medical students had not returned to classes and were confirmed to be repeating the year. However, the Ministry decided to revert next year's medical school quota to its original level, accepting recommendations from the medical education community.


Of next year's medical school admissions, 3,016 students will be selected within the regular quota, and 107 students will be selected outside the regular quota. By admissions type, 2,115 students (67.7%) will be selected through the early admission process, which is higher than the 1,008 students selected through the regular admission process. Among early admissions, 991 students (31.7%) will be selected through the school records-based track, which accounts for the largest proportion. The holistic admissions track will select 969 students (31.0%), and the essay-based track will select 131 students (4.2%).


Through the regional talent admissions track for non-metropolitan areas, 1,213 students will be selected. This is an increase of 190 students compared to the 2024 academic year, when the admissions quota was similar. The proportion of regional talent admissions at universities required to select regional students is 59.04%. Among all medical schools, Chonnam National University has the highest proportion of regional talent admissions at 78.57%, followed by Wonkwang University (77.32%), Dong-A University (76.47%), and Pusan National University (76.0%). Hallym University Medical School has the lowest proportion at 22.78%.


The number of students to be admitted to each medical school for the 2026 academic year is as follows: Gachon University 45, Catholic Kwandong University 63, The Catholic University of Korea 96, Kangwon National University 49, Konkuk University (Glocal) 44, Konyang University 51, Kyungpook National University 111, Gyeongsang National University 79, Kyung Hee University 111, Keimyung University 81, Korea University 112, Kosin University 79, Dankook University 42, Daegu Catholic University 42, Dongguk University (WISE) 53, Dong-A University 51, Pusan National University 125, Seoul National University 138, Sungkyunkwan University 42, Soonchunhyang University 97, Ajou University 41, Yonsei University 112, Yonsei University (Mirae) 97, Yeungnam University 79, University of Ulsan 40, Wonkwang University 97, Eulji University 46, Ewha Womans University 76, Inje University 97, Inha University 52, Chonnam National University 126, Chonbuk National University 142, Jeju National University 40, Chosun University 127, Chung-Ang University 88, Chungnam National University 113, Chungbuk National University 50, Hallym University 79, and Hanyang University 110.
