Regarding writer Yoo Simin's comment that Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party presidential candidate's wife, Seol Nanyeong, is "not in her right mind," Na Kyungwon, co-chair of the People Power Party's joint election campaign committee, strongly criticized the remark, calling it "a distorted, violent sexual consciousness disguised as progressivism and a base perception."
On May 30, Na wrote on her Facebook account, "Yoo Simin's outrageous remark goes beyond simple misogyny or denigration of workers; it insults the value of partnership, trust, and solidarity that a couple has built over many years." She further criticized, "It is a base perception that exposes leftist-style lust for power."
Na Kyungwon, co-chair of the People Power Party's joint election campaign committee, is delivering a support speech at Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate's concentrated campaign rally for Nowon, Dobong, and Gangbuk, held at Banghak Intersection in Dobong-gu, Seoul.
She continued, "Their true nature is a distorted, violent sexual consciousness disguised as progressivism," and pointed out, "They habitually talk about equality and gender equality, but deep down, they are steeped in a sense of superiority and discrimination reminiscent of the seonggol·jingol hierarchy."
Na emphasized that both Kim Moonsoo and Seol Nanyeong are independent individuals who have lived fiercely in their respective roles, and that they are partners in life who have walked together with mutual respect. She added, "Anyone who disparages the life of a partner is not qualified to speak of true democracy and equality."
She also stated that Yoo Simin should sincerely apologize to the public for his remarks. She demanded, "He must sincerely apologize to Mrs. Seol, who has lived her whole life fiercely as a worker, wife, and mother, as well as to all women and to the people who have upheld the value of partnership."
Furthermore, she appealed for support, saying, "This kind of perspective is exactly the outdated and violent sexual prejudice that our society must overcome, and is a relic of the past. This election is one we cannot afford to lose for the sake of the people, as it is about defending liberal democracy and genuine equality."
On May 28, Yoo Simin appeared on Kim Eojun's YouTube channel (Dasboida) and said, "As someone who is a genuine worker, Mrs. Seol was elevated through her marriage to Kim Moonsoo, who is a former student laborer. She became the wife of a National Assembly member and Gyeonggi Province governor, and looked up to her husband even more. Now that her husband has become a presidential candidate for a major party, her feet are no longer on the ground." In particular, he said, "She is not in her right mind," which sparked controversy.
