Recently, due to an engine failure on a passenger ship operated by one of the ferry companies on the Ulleung?Pohang route, residents and tourists traveling to and from Ulleungdo have been experiencing significant inconvenience in using maritime transportation.
In response, Ulleung County has coordinated with H Shipping to establish a paid shuttle bus service between Hupo and Pohang.
Through this measure, Ulleung County announced that it plans to operate the Hupo?Pohang shuttle bus on a regular basis starting from June 1, aiming to address the transportation gap caused by the suspension of ferry services and to minimize inconvenience for residents and tourists.
An official from H Shipping stated, "This shuttle bus operation was made possible thanks to the request and close cooperation of Ulleung County," adding, "We will do our best to expand the transportation network between Ulleungdo and the mainland and to provide transportation services that satisfy both residents and tourists."
County Governor Nam Hankwon said, "We initiated swift discussions to minimize inconvenience in maritime transportation between Ulleungdo and the mainland and to ensure stable mobility for residents," adding, "We will continue to devise various support measures to improve transportation convenience for residents."
This agreement marks the first step toward strengthening transportation connectivity between Hupo and Ulleung, and it is expected to have a positive impact on improving regional accessibility and enhancing tourism competitiveness in the future.
Ulleung County and H Shipping plan to continue strengthening their cooperative system to provide transportation infrastructure that will satisfy both residents and visitors.
