Second Day of Early Voting: Turnout Reaches 23.33% by 10 a.m., Over 10.35 Million Cast Ballots

Jeonnam Records Highest Early Voting Turnout at 41.17%
Daegu Lowest at 16.20%, Yeongnam Region Lags Behind
Early Voting Continues Through Final Day of Two-Day Period

As of 10:00 a.m. on May 30, the final day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the national average early voting turnout stood at 23.33%. This figure continues to set a new record for the highest early voting turnout at this time of day in any nationwide election.


According to the Central Election Commission, as of 10:00 a.m., 10,358,501 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in early voting.


The national average early voting turnout is 23.33%. This is the highest turnout at this hour for any nationwide election since the early voting system was first introduced in the June 4, 2014 local elections, excluding by-elections and re-elections. It is 1.71 percentage points higher than the 21.62% turnout recorded at the same time during the previous 20th presidential election.

So far, the region with the highest turnout is Jeonnam at 41.17%. Jeonbuk follows at 38.38%, and Gwangju at 37.29%, showing an overwhelming level of participation in the Honam region. In the capital area, Seoul (22.86%) and Gyeonggi (20.74%) are both below the national average, as is Incheon (21.92%).


In contrast, the lowest turnout has been recorded in Daegu at 16.20%. Busan (20.17%), Gyeongbuk (20.44%), and Gyeongnam (20.64%) in the Yeongnam region are also showing turnout rates that are significantly below the national average.


The early voting, which began on May 29, is being held over two days. Voting hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring a valid ID and visit an early voting station.
