The Gwangju Regional Veterans Office announced on May 29 that it had held the "Overseas Deployment Veterans Day Consolation Reception."
The event, which took place that day at the Jeonju Daesaseupcheong, was attended by more than 250 people, including overseas deployment veterans residing in Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk, as well as heads of institutions and organizations.
This event was organized to honor the achievements of veterans who carried out combat missions in foreign lands at the call of the nation. The program included the entrance of the unit flag, a ministerial commendation, a commemorative address, a celebratory performance, and a luncheon.
In addition, to express gratitude for the remarkable courage of the deployed veterans, students from Geumpa Technical High School, a military-specialized school, participated in the entrance of the unit flag and held a special event where they provided handmade cookies they had prepared themselves.

Kim Seokki, head of the Gwangju Regional Veterans Office, said, "We are grateful for the contributions and sacrifices of overseas deployment veterans, who laid the foundation for the development of the Republic of Korea."
Overseas Deployment Veterans Day is a national memorial day established through public consensus to honor the sacrifices of veterans who served in overseas wars, including those who participated in the Vietnam War. It was designated as a national memorial day in 2022 through the revision of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Honorable Treatment and Establishment of Organizations for Veterans of Overseas Deployment.
