Beenzino Explains: "There Was No Intent"
Rapper Beenzino (real name Lim Sungbin) posted a photo and message titled "World Red Shorts Day" on his social networking service (SNS) account, but after facing a barrage of criticism from netizens, he apologized and deleted the post. The criticism pointed out that, given the ongoing presidential election period, he should refrain from posts that could be interpreted as having political overtones. Recently, there has been a trend of excessive criticism directed at celebrities.
On May 29, Beenzino posted on his Instagram account with the caption "World Red Shorts Day," sharing photos of himself wearing red shorts and a red vest while holding his son, as well as a picture holding a donut with red cream.
In response, netizens accused him of revealing a political inclination in support of the People Power Party on the first day of early voting. As a result, Beenzino deleted the post.
Afterward, Beenzino issued an explanation, saying, "I sincerely apologize to those who were uncomfortable with today's post." He added, "There was absolutely no political intention. I simply wanted to share some pleasant moments from a peaceful day spent with my family and in my studio a few days ago." He also acknowledged, "I realize that posting during the early voting period could have caused misunderstandings, and I was not cautious enough."
Meanwhile, on the previous day, Karina (real name Yoo Jimin), a member of the group aespa, also faced criticism from netizens after posting a photo on her social networking service account in which she was wearing a red jumper and making a 'number 2' gesture. In response, her agency SM Entertainment released an official statement saying, "Karina simply posted about her daily life on SNS, with no other purpose or intention," and added, "Once she became aware that the post could be misunderstood, she immediately deleted it."
