Chonnam National University Hospital announced on May 29 that Professor Byungchae Kim (Department of Neurology) recently received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare at the "2025 World Clinical Trials Day Commemoration Event."
Professor Kim, who received the Minister of Health and Welfare commendation, was recognized for his contributions as Director of the Biomedical Research Institute at Chonnam National University Hospital (from November 2017 to November 2020), where he established the necessary human and material infrastructure to promote clinical trials, helping the hospital become a leading clinical trial institution.
Professor Kim expanded the participation of marginalized groups, including elderly patients, in clinical trials through new clinical research on treatments for Alzheimer's disease and neurological disorders.
In particular, he has served as principal investigator in a variety of domestic and international clinical trials (52 clinical trials and 35 national projects), making ongoing contributions to overcoming neurological diseases and developing new treatments for Alzheimer's disease, such as Lecanemab.
He also contributed to the development of new national clinical trial technologies and the strengthening of domestic clinical trial capabilities through his participation in the "Smart Clinical Trial Platform Construction Project" at the Clinical Trial Center of the Biomedical Research Institute at Chonnam National University Hospital and the development of the next-generation Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS).
Professor Kim stated, "Rather than being an award I received for my individual achievements, I believe it is a recognition of the many excellent results achieved by the Clinical Trial Center of the Biomedical Research Institute at Chonnam National University Hospital. I will continue to do my best to ensure that our hospital can contribute, even in a small way, to protecting the health of the local community."
