Covers an Area Equivalent to 11 Soccer Fields, Functions as a Hub Alongside the Asan Logistics Center
Manages A/S Parts for 152 Vehicle Models... Enhanced Efficiency Through Automation
Hyundai Mobis announced on May 29 that it has established and begun full-scale operation of a large-scale integrated logistics center in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, to supply after-sales service (A/S) parts for Hyundai Motor and Kia more quickly and reliably.
Hyundai Mobis has integrated three logistics hubs in the Yeongnam region?previously dispersed across Oedong and Naengcheon in Gyeongju, and Gyeongsan. The newly constructed Yeongnam Logistics Center, located in the Myeonggye 3 General Industrial Complex in Gyeongju, covers a site area of 81,000 square meters, equivalent to the size of 11 soccer fields. The construction, which spanned over two years, required a total investment of 97 billion KRW.
The Yeongnam Logistics Center serves as a dedicated hub for domestic A/S parts supply, functioning as a logistics hub alongside the existing Asan Logistics Center in South Chungcheong Province (completed in 2005). It receives parts from 270 partner manufacturers in the Yeongnam region and delivers them to Hyundai Motor and Kia customers through 22 regional parts business offices, 40 parts teams, and more than 1,000 parts agencies nationwide.
The center manages A/S parts for a total of 152 vehicle models and approximately 175,000 items, processing an average of about 14,000 orders per day. More than 150 vehicles travel to and from the center daily for parts inbound and outbound logistics.
This center has enhanced logistics management efficiency by automating the receipt, storage, and shipment of A/S parts. Dedicated boxes containing small-sized parts are automatically stored and retrieved in over 20,000 storage cells based solely on computerized commands. Solar panels with a total area of 36,000 square meters, installed across the entire roof, will begin actual operation in the second half of this year. This is part of Hyundai Mobis's 'RE100' strategy, which aims to replace all electricity used at domestic and overseas business sites with renewable energy by 2040.
Baek Moonki, head of the Yeongnam Logistics Center, explained, "For small vehicle parts, the introduction of automation has increased the number of items processed per hour by two to as much as three times compared to manual operations."
Hyundai Mobis currently operates a total of 54 logistics hubs worldwide, including in North America, Europe, China, and Asia. In Korea, it operates export logistics centers in Asan (for both domestic and export use) and Ulsan.
Son Chanmo, Executive Vice President and Head of the Service Parts BU at Hyundai Mobis, stated, "Through the optimization of logistics hubs, we will continue to innovate the A/S parts supply system for domestic Hyundai Motor and Kia customers." He added, "We plan to gradually expand logistics hubs by region to enable even faster and more accurate domestic A/S parts supply."
