Daejeon City Seeks Win-Win Cooperation Measures for Tram Construction with Six Associations

On May 29, the Daejeon Metropolitan Government announced that it held a meeting with the heads of six local construction-related associations, including the Daejeon branch of the Construction Association of Korea, to discuss ways to promote mutual cooperation for the local economy in relation to the construction of the Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 tram project.

The meeting was attended by Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo, as well as the heads of the Daejeon branches of the Construction Association of Korea, the Korea Specialty Contractors Association, and the Korea Electrical Contractors Association, along with the heads of the Daejeon-Sejong-Chungnam branch of the Korea Information and Communication Contractors Association and the Korea Mechanical Equipment Construction Association. The participants exchanged a wide range of opinions.

Mayor Lee emphasized, "The construction of the tram is not just about building transportation infrastructure; it is a key driver for advancing the Daejeon economy," and added, "Creating an environment where local companies can grow together is an important goal of Daejeon municipal administration."

The Daejeon Metropolitan Government is expanding the participation rate of local companies in the construction of Line 2 to more than 49%, and, in accordance with municipal ordinances, is encouraging local companies to take on more than 70% of subcontracting work.

In particular, the city is working closely with construction contractors to ensure that more than 80% of participating companies are local. In the service sector, the city has made it more advantageous for local companies by assigning additional evaluation points for their participation during the qualification review process. For waste disposal services, the city has implemented region-restricted bidding, allowing more than 98% of contracts to be awarded to local companies.

Meanwhile, the Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 tram is being constructed with a total length of 38.8 kilometers and 45 stations.
