Gwangju Early Voting Turnout at 8.83% as of 10 a.m., Third Highest Nationwide After Jeonnam and Jeonbuk

Dong-gu Records Highest Turnout in Gwangju at 9.89%
3.59 Percentage Points Higher Than National Average

On the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election in Gwangju, the voter turnout as of 10 a.m. was 8.83%. This figure is 3.59 percentage points higher than the national average of 5.24% at the same time.

According to data compiled by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of 10 a.m. on the 29th, 105,453 out of a total of 1,194,471 eligible voters in Gwangju visited early voting sites. Among the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide, Gwangju's turnout ranked third, following Jeonnam (10.87%) and Jeonbuk (9.81%).


By district, Dong-gu recorded the highest turnout at 9.89%, followed by Buk-gu at 9.12%, Nam-gu at 9.02%, Seo-gu at 8.80%, and Gwangsan-gu at 7.70%. In Dong-gu, 9,123 out of 92,286 registered voters participated in early voting.


This presidential election's early voting period runs for two days, from today to the following day, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters must bring an identification card such as a resident registration card, driver's license, passport, or a mobile ID. Voting is possible at any early voting site nationwide, regardless of one's registered address, and information about designated polling stations can be found on the National Election Commission website.


Compared to previous presidential elections, Gwangju's early voting rate in the 20th presidential election was 48.3% (national average 36.9%), and in the 19th presidential election it was 33.7% (national average 26.1%). As of 10 a.m. on those respective election days, Gwangju's early voting rates were 4.93% and 3.18%, both lower than in the current election.
