According to Pocheon City on May 29, the city began transporting materials by helicopter on May 28 to install a suspension bridge and cliff walkway at the summit of Unaksan Mountain in Hwacheon-myeon, accelerating the progress of the project.

The Unaksan Mountain summit suspension (cloud) bridge installation project involves building a 35-meter-long suspension bridge over the cliff section from Aegibong to Sarakibawi. In addition, an 83-meter-long cliff walkway, a 44-meter ridge staircase, and one observation deck will be constructed beneath the cliff.

Notably, the Unaksan Mountain summit suspension bridge will be the first of its kind in Korea to be built at an altitude of over 800 meters, and is expected to become a symbolic landmark as the highest suspension bridge in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Pocheon City has completed all related administrative procedures, including a temporary mountain use notification from the Northern Regional Office of the Korea Forest Service and development activity approval from Gapyeong County. A total project budget of 3 billion won has been allocated, and the project has been underway in earnest since July 2023.

Once the suspension bridge is completed, it will connect the previously disconnected section of the Hanbuk Jeongmaek ridge on Unaksan Mountain, ensuring continuity of hiking trails. The accessibility and experiential features for hikers are also expected to be significantly enhanced compared to before. Furthermore, the city is seeking to develop the area into a stay-type tourism infrastructure linked to nearby historical and cultural resources, such as the Gwangam Lee Byeok Holy Site.

Baek Younghyeon, Mayor of Pocheon City, stated, "Unaksan Mountain is one of Gyeonggi Province's most renowned mountains and one of the five major peaks, attracting many hikers year-round. By installing the suspension bridge, we aim to provide new experiential content and establish Unaksan Mountain as the top tourist destination in the metropolitan area, thereby contributing to revitalizing the local economy."

Pocheon City plans to use this project as an opportunity to accelerate the sustainable development of tourism resources that highlight Unaksan Mountain's natural scenery and historical significance.
