A Global Symposium on AI-Based Aviation Innovation and Smart Cities
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority will host the "2025 Innovation Growth Platform" on June 4 at Gyeongwonjae Arirang Hall, focusing on the convergence strategy of AI-based aviation innovation and smart cities.
This event is an international cooperation symposium jointly organized by the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and the Korea Stanford Center, an affiliated research institute of Stanford University in the United States, with sponsorship from the Aerospace Industry-Academia Convergence Institute. As the inaugural event, it has been designed to discuss the future direction of global aviation innovation, including AI-based aviation technology and smart city strategies.
Twelve experts from major domestic and international aviation innovation organizations?including Airbus, Georgia Institute of Technology, Delft University of Technology, Schiphol Airport, Incheon Airport, and Inha University?will participate as speakers. The symposium will feature presentations and panel discussions on twelve key topics, including the SESAME project, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), smart airport services, and European funding strategies.
The event will provide a platform for in-depth discussions and networking, bringing together global researchers and representatives from local companies and institutions to share joint research cases and strategies from industry, academia, and research sectors.
During the morning session, there will be an introduction to the SESAME project by Airbus North America, presentations on aviation innovation initiatives by Georgia Institute of Technology and Delft University of Technology, followed by a panel discussion on the future of global joint research.
In the afternoon, the program will cover Schiphol Airport's smart airport innovation, Incheon Airport's digital transformation strategy and direction for promoting Advanced Air Mobility, Inha University's challenges for urban adoption of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), the Aerospace Industry-Academia Convergence Institute's cases of AI-based aviation safety and educational innovation, and an introduction to Delft University of Technology's researcher support program in the European Union's "Horizon Europe" aviation sector, presenting ways to connect international joint research.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to use this event as an opportunity to realize concrete cooperation models, including follow-up joint research, corporate partnership support, and talent exchange.
Yoon Wonseok, Commissioner of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, stated, "This symposium marks the first step for the Incheon Free Economic Zone to build an innovative industrial ecosystem and a global industry-academia-research network in collaboration with world-class aviation and AI institutions," adding, "The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority aims to grow into a research and development hub based on advanced AI aviation technology and become one of the world's top ten innovation cities."
