Yongsan District Hosts Filial Piety Event at Samcheonggak, Creating Memories for 140 Elderly Living Alone

A Special Day with Traditional Korean Cuisine and Music Performances

Yongsan District in Seoul invited 140 elderly individuals living alone with low income from the local community to a special filial piety event. The event, titled "A Special Day at Samcheonggak," was held on May 28 at Samcheonggak in Seongbuk District.

On this day, the seniors strolled through the beautiful hanok and gardens of Samcheonggak, took commemorative photos, and enjoyed a traditional Korean set meal featuring abalone bibimbap, braised short ribs, japchae, and more. This was followed by a series of diverse performances, including the royal court dance "Chunaengmu," pansori, fan dance, Korean traditional music ensemble, and samulnori, presented by the Cheongilhwa Art Troupe, which received an enthusiastic response.


This event was organized at the suggestion of Chaeheon Ha, the representative of Samcheonggak who resides in Huam-dong, Yongsan District. The elderly participants expressed their gratitude, saying, "Today will be remembered for a long time."


Heeyoung Park, mayor of Yongsan District, stated, "We prepared this event to offer warm comfort and memories to elderly individuals living alone, who are especially vulnerable to emotional isolation," and added, "We will continue to make various efforts to improve the quality of life for seniors in the future."
