As of 9:00 a.m. on May 29, the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average voter turnout stood at 3.55%. This is the highest early voting turnout recorded at this time of day for any previous election.
On this day, the National Election Commission announced that, as of 8:00 a.m., 1,575,916 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in the voting.
The nationwide average early voting turnout is 3.55%. Since the early voting system was first introduced for nationwide elections in the June 4, 2014 local elections, this is the highest turnout at this time of day for any nationwide election, excluding by-elections and re-elections.
So far, the region with the highest turnout is Jeonnam (7.36%), followed by Jeonbuk (6.67%) and Gwangju (5.97%). The lowest turnout was recorded in Daegu (2.10%).
Early voting will take place over two days, from May 29 to May 30. Voting hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring identification and visit an early voting station.
