The West Sea Coast Guard Agency announced on the 28th that it will deploy 30 patrol vessels to transport ballot boxes from island regions to the mainland during the 21st presidential election.
According to the West Sea Coast Guard Agency, during the presidential election period, including both the main and early voting, 30 patrol vessels will be mobilized to directly transport or escort transport ships carrying 87 ballot boxes from 57 island regions within its jurisdiction to the mainland.
In particular, the West Sea Coast Guard Agency held a video conference today (the 28th) to ensure the smooth transfer of ballot boxes. During the meeting, the agency discussed response measures such as conducting preliminary route surveys, designating responsible patrol vessels for each route, establishing communication networks between transport ships and patrol vessels, strengthening the VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) control functions for transport ships, and deploying alternative patrol vessels in case of emergencies such as mechanical failure or poor weather conditions.
Additionally, the agency plans to strengthen maritime security during the election period and to establish and operate situation response teams at each affiliated agency on election day to maintain preparedness and response posture for the safe transfer of ballot boxes.
A representative from the West Sea Coast Guard Agency stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that ballot boxes from island regions can be safely transported to the mainland via patrol vessels."
