MADEX is the largest maritime defense industry exhibition in Korea, co-hosted by the Navy, Korea International Trade Association, and Navy Association, and has been held biennially since 1999. This year, more than 150 leading global companies, including Thales, Rolls-Royce, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Hanwha Ocean, are participating.
Korea Airports Corporation has also set up its own booth at this exhibition to showcase its self-developed shipborne and fixed Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) equipment. The company plans to promote the technological capabilities of domestically produced navigation equipment and the achievements of the K-defense industry.
Previously, the corporation completed the development of fixed-type TACAN in 2016 and installed it at 18 Air Force and Navy bases in Korea by last year. In 2020, the company won a contract for the modernization of Indian military airfields, commissioned by the Indian Ministry of Defence, and achieved the export of a total of 31 fixed-type TACAN units.
In November last year, building on the core technology of the fixed-type TACAN, the company succeeded in localizing shipborne TACAN and, at the end of the year, secured the Defense Acquisition Program Administration's 'Navy Shipborne TACAN Supply Project.'
Heo Juhee, Head of the Glocal Business Division at Korea Airports Corporation, said, "Through participation in this MADEX, we aim to showcase the excellent technology and competitiveness of domestic navigation equipment to the world and lay the foundation for expanding defense exports."
