Busan Office of Education to Hold "Food Allergy Camp" for Elementary Grades 1-3

Customized Experiential Education Program
for Students and Parents

The Busan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) will hold the "2025 Food Allergy Camp - I Am Confident! Food Allergy" at the Nutrition Education Experience Center starting at 9 a.m. on May 31, 2025.

Approximately 160 participants, including elementary school students in grades 1 to 3 who have food allergies and their guardians, are expected to attend the camp.

This event is designed as a customized educational program to ensure the safe school life and promote the health rights of students with food allergies. It is planned as an experiential camp where students and their guardians participate together.

The camp will feature eight experiential programs, beginning with a puppet show titled "The Day the Baby Pig Moved In," followed by activities such as gardening, making fruit bracelets, and "Making Safe Food with Clay." The clay-making program, in particular, is expected to have a significant educational effect by enhancing understanding of foods that can trigger allergies.

Programs for guardians are also noteworthy. Expert lectures will be provided by Professor Kim Heegyu of Kosin University Hospital and Nutrition Teacher Yoon Jihyun of Yeondong Elementary School, along with an alternative meal cooking class and individual nutrition counseling. These programs are expected to help parents improve their practical skills in managing diets.

In addition, both pre- and post-event surveys and Dietary Screening Tests (DST) will be conducted simultaneously, with a focus on collecting effective information and establishing a sustainable management system.

The Busan Office of Education expects this camp to achieve multiple outcomes, including ensuring the safe school life of students with food allergies, establishing a food allergy management system linked with families, and enhancing trust in school meal policies.

Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "Prevention and continuous management are key to food allergies. I hope this camp will be a time for parents and students to learn and empathize together. We will continue to expand various policies and practical programs to promote student health in the future."
