On this day, through social networking services (SNS), Lee stated, "I will create a society where everyone enjoys equal rights and opportunities," and announced this pledge.
Lee pointed out, "Although women still experience structural discrimination in many areas of our society, the Yoon Suk Yeol administration has relegated gender equality policies to a lower priority." He added, "Last year, the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) recommended that the Korean government immediately appoint a Minister of Gender Equality and Family and halt efforts to abolish the ministry."
He continued, "Gender equality is a core value for achieving integration, inclusion, and a sustainable society," and stated, "The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs will serve as a control tower to correct unfairness and promote equal rights and opportunities for all."
He also emphasized, "We will carefully examine and address whether there are cases of partial reverse discrimination," and added, "When forming the cabinet, I will ensure a balanced selection of talent by considering both gender and age."
In addition, he stated, "We will also strengthen the system for promoting gender equality governance," and said, "We will expand the system of gender equality policy officers in central government ministries and local governments to reinforce coordination and cooperation functions for gender equality policies. By increasing the number of dedicated departments within local governments, we will enhance the effectiveness of gender equality policies."
