Posted a Photo of a Red Jumper with the Number '2' and a Rose Emoji
Karina (real name Yoo Jimin), a member of the group aespa, has apologized after becoming embroiled in controversy over alleged political bias ahead of the presidential election.
On May 28, Karina addressed fans on the community platform Bubble, saying, "I'm truly sorry for making MYs (the fandom name) worry," and added, "As I saw misunderstandings grow and MYs become increasingly concerned, I thought I should speak up directly." She continued, "From now on, I will pay more attention and act more carefully," and further stated, "I'm sorry once again for causing you concern."
Her agency, SM Entertainment, also released an official statement on the same day, explaining, "Karina simply posted about her daily life on social media, with absolutely no other purpose or intention." The agency continued, "After realizing the potential for misunderstanding, she immediately deleted the post. We sincerely apologize for any unintentional concern we may have caused." They added, "We will be more careful to prevent such incidents from happening again," and expressed, "We hope that the artist's intentions will not be distorted or consumed with a particular agenda."
Earlier on May 28, Karina posted a photo on her social networking service (SNS) wearing a red jumper with the number '2' on it, along with a rose emoji. After speculation arose online that this might be an expression of support for a particular political party ahead of the 21st presidential election, also referred to as the 'Rose Election,' she deleted the post.
