No-shows, Dine-and-Dash, Illegal Advertising Agency Activities, and Malicious Reviews
The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on May 28 that it will intensively crack down on illegal activities that harm the livelihoods of small business owners, in response to a recent surge in so-called "no-show scams" in which fraudsters impersonate public institutions and celebrities to induce payment.
According to the police, there have been 39 cases of no-show scam crimes in Chungnam over the past two months.
In response, the police will conduct a focused crackdown on illegal activities targeting small business owners?including no-shows, dine-and-dash incidents, illegal advertising agency activities, and malicious reviews?until October 31.
The police are also working to prevent further damage by sharing examples of no-show scam crime types occurring in the area with related organizations such as the Small Business Association and the provincial government, as well as by conducting public awareness campaigns.
A representative of the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency stated, "We will strictly enforce the law against illegal activities targeting small business owners who are facing difficult economic circumstances," and added, "If you receive an order on credit along with a request for proxy purchasing, you must be suspicious and verify the request."
