Hygiene Inspections and Food Poisoning Prevention Consulting
for 45 Restaurants at the Festival Venue
The city of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 28th that it had conducted hygiene inspections and food poisoning prevention consulting for 45 restaurants at the festival venue ahead of the 15th Hwaseong Boat Play Festival, which will be held for three days from May 30 to June 1 in the Jeongokhang area.

The main items inspected included: whether business owners and employees had undergone health checkups; whether products past their expiration date were being used, stored, or prepared for sale; whether hygiene management in kitchens and the installation of insect control facilities met facility standards; whether the storage temperature for refrigerated and frozen foods was being observed; whether food was being reused; and whether food was being handled hygienically.
The inspections were carried out using a food poisoning prevention manual and a consulting evaluation form. The process involved assessing hygiene management and contamination risks at each stage, including ingredient inspection, storage, preparation, and serving, and then providing practical improvement measures tailored to on-site conditions.
Along with the inspections, the city distributed promotional materials to each hygiene-related business and emphasized compliance with six major food poisoning prevention rules: washing hands, eating only thoroughly cooked food, boiling food, washing and disinfecting, using separate knives and cutting boards for raw and cooked foods, and maintaining proper storage temperatures.
The city plans to continue monitoring hygiene management, food handling standards, the posting of price lists, and solicitation practices not only during this preliminary inspection but also throughout the festival period. On the first day of the festival, May 30, the city will also promote the six major food poisoning prevention rules and provide food poisoning prevention education to visitors with support from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s rapid food poisoning inspection vehicle.
Cho Injang, head of Hwaseong City's Hygiene Policy Division, stated, "As the Hwaseong Boat Play Festival has been selected as a representative cultural tourism festival of Korea, we will do our utmost to ensure hygienic food so that visitors can dine with peace of mind."
