This intensive safety inspection is specifically aimed at raising awareness of various social disasters and safety accidents. It also seeks to create a safer living environment by eliminating risk factors in advance.

Accordingly, Yangsan City is conducting joint inspections focused on aging or high-risk facilities within the city. These inspections involve private sector experts and relevant public officials from various fields, including civil engineering, architecture, electricity, gas, and fire safety.

On May 20 and May 26, Deputy Mayor Cho Hyunok personally visited inspection sites and participated in the inspections. In response to a recent fire incident at a medical institution in Yangsan City, Deputy Mayor Cho visited large medical institutions in the area to closely examine fire response procedures, evacuation routes, and the management status of fire safety equipment, directly verifying on-site measures to prevent similar accidents from recurring.

Deputy Mayor Cho also visited the Yangsan Agricultural and Marine Products Distribution Center, which has been in operation for over 10 years, to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the safety status of the aging building. Experts from architecture, fire safety, electricity, and gas sectors participated in this inspection, conducting a detailed review of the building's structural safety, equipment conditions, and emergency response systems. Special attention was given to the effectiveness of emergency response by thoroughly checking actual evacuation routes in the event of a fire.

Through this inspection, Yangsan City is conducting comprehensive safety checks on a total of 82 facilities at risk of disaster or safety accidents. As of May 26, 68 facilities have been inspected, achieving a progress rate of 83%. In addition, sample inspections by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and verification inspections by South Gyeongsang Province are being conducted in parallel to enhance the objectivity and effectiveness of the inspections.

As a result of the inspections, issues that could be immediately addressed were corrected on site. For facilities requiring more detailed diagnosis or repair and reinforcement, the city is preparing mid- to long-term action plans, including securing budgets, and will proceed with follow-up measures.

A city official stated, "This inspection is not a mere formality, but is focused on field-oriented actions to eliminate real risk factors," adding, "Even after the inspection period, we will continue post-management and institutional improvements to create a city environment where citizens can feel safe."

Deputy Mayor Cho Hyunok emphasized, "Response during a disaster is completely different from normal circumstances. We must be thoroughly prepared so that we can act without confusion even in extreme situations. It is most important to prevent accidents through regular inspections not only during the intensive inspection period but also in daily operations. We must meticulously check all facilities as if they were our own homes and be fully prepared to respond to any situation at any time."

Yangsan City plans to continue prioritizing citizen safety and will strive to expand a culture of safety through regular inspections and increased citizen participation.
