Gwangyang Police Hold Ceremony to Deliver 'Smart Tags' for Preventing Missing Dementia Patients

Guardian-Police Linked Application
Real-Time Tracking of Missing Elderly Persons' Locations Possible

Gwangyang Police Station in South Jeolla Province, led by Chief Song Kiju, announced on the 28th that it held a ceremony on the 27th at Maehwamaru in the police station to deliver 'Smart Tags for Preventing Missing Dementia Patients' in collaboration with POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, headed by Ko Jaeyoon, and the Gwangyang City Love Sharing Welfare Foundation, chaired by Kim Jaekyung.

The smart tags delivered on this day were purchased by the Gwangyang City Love Sharing Welfare Foundation, which acquired 300 devices with sponsorship from Gwangyang Steelworks. These smart tags will be distributed to dementia patients within the jurisdiction who are at risk of going missing or have previously experienced missing incidents. They are expected to be used for rapid discovery and prevention in the event of a missing person case.

The smart tag is a small device that utilizes Bluetooth technology for location tracking. Through an application linked to both guardians and the police, the real-time location of a missing dementia patient can be monitored, enabling a swift response in case of disappearance.

Chief Song Kiju stated, "As the aging population intensifies, the number of missing cases due to dementia is increasing every year. This smart tag support project is a good example of the local community coming together to protect the safety of the elderly. Gwangyang Police Station will also continue to prioritize the safety and lives of citizens by carrying out various preventive activities."
