Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has prepared response measures for a potential resurgence of COVID-19, as the virus is currently spreading in Greater China, including China and Hong Kong, as well as Southeast Asia, including Thailand.
On May 28, Suwon City announced that it has established a "Joint Task Force" consisting of 28 members in four teams to prepare for possible cluster infections. In addition, the city has organized "Field Response Teams" made up of 16 members in four teams, centered around the infectious disease departments of the health centers in its four districts.
Although the current domestic COVID-19 situation remains stable, there is a possibility of a resurgence during the summer months (July to August). In response, the city plans to strengthen the following measures: vaccination for high-risk groups, management of facilities vulnerable to infection, promotion of COVID-19 prevention guidelines, and enhancement of the medical response system.
First, free COVID-19 vaccinations for those aged 65 and older, immunocompromised individuals, and residents of facilities vulnerable to infection have been extended until June 30. Vaccinations are available at designated medical institutions and health centers. However, it is recommended to call the local health center in advance to check vaccine availability before visiting.
In addition, high-risk individuals who received a COVID-19 vaccine between October 11 of last year and April 30 of this year are advised to receive an additional dose after consulting with medical staff if 90 days have passed, considering the potential decline in immunity.
Suwon City also plans to hold "COVID-19 Vaccination Information Sessions" for facilities vulnerable to infection to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination.
