Over 30,000 Auditioned After Open Casting
Cast Actors Have No Experience in Major Productions
Warner Bros. Discovery, a US media and content company producing the TV series adaptation of the global bestseller "Harry Potter," has revealed the three child actors cast as the main characters. On the 27th, Discovery announced in a statement, "The HBO Harry Potter TV series has cast newcomer Dominic McLoughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stott as Ron Weasley."

Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, co-producers of the series, said, "We are delighted to have finally found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three exceptional actors is truly remarkable, and we eagerly await the moment when the world can witness the magic they will create together on screen." They added, "We would like to thank the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It was a pleasure to discover so many talented young actors."
According to media reports, the actors cast as the trio in the TV series have little experience with major productions. McLoughlin previously appeared in the new Sky Channel comedy "Grow," while Stanton played Matilda in "Matilda: The Musical," which ran in the West End from 2023 to last year. Stott will be taking on his first leading role with this series. Variety reported that more than 30,000 people auditioned after HBO began its open casting last fall. Filming for the series is set to begin this summer, with the show scheduled to be released next year on HBO's streaming platform. US entertainment media outlet Variety noted, "Just as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint gained worldwide fame as Harry Potter in the early 2000s, there is a high likelihood that these new actors will follow a similar path."
Meanwhile, the Harry Potter series, written by British author J.K. Rowling, has sold more than 450 million copies worldwide since its first publication in 1997, making it a global bestseller. The work sparked a worldwide phenomenon, spawning films, plays, games, theme parks, and related merchandise.
