Songpa District in Seoul (District Mayor Seo Gangseok) announced that it will implement an "emergency transportation plan" to minimize transportation inconvenience for residents, including the deployment of free shuttle buses, as the Seoul City Bus Labor Union is set to begin a general strike on May 28.
In order to proactively respond to the announced Seoul city bus strike, the district has established an "Emergency Transportation Countermeasures Headquarters" and set up a situation room to implement countermeasures for each scenario. Until the end of the strike, 30 district employees will work in two shifts across four teams each day.
In particular, starting at 6 a.m. on May 28, the district will preemptively deploy 22 emergency shuttle buses (with a capacity of 45 seats or more), prioritizing routes that connect to major subway stations in order to minimize inconvenience for residents.
The district plans to operate a total of 22 free shuttle buses on eight routes, making a total of 286 trips per day.
The routes are as follows: ▲Temporary Route 1 (Cheonho Station~Pungnap-dong~Cheonho Station) ▲Temporary Route 2 (Jamsil Station~Seokchon Station~Samjeon Station~Jamsil Station) ▲Temporary Route 3 (Sports Complex Station~Jamsilsaenae Station~Jamsil 7-dong) ▲Temporary Route 4 (Garak Market Station~Ogeum Station~Garak Market Station) ▲Temporary Route 5 (Macheon-dong~Munjeong Station~Garak Market Station) ▲Temporary Route 6 (Wirye-dong~Jangji Station~Munjeong-dong) ▲Temporary Route 7 (Geoyeo Station~Macheon-dong~Geoyeo Station) ▲Temporary Route 8 (Geoyeo Station~Ogeum Station~Songpa Naru Station~Jamsil Naru Station).
The shuttle buses will operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a particular focus on increasing frequency during commuting hours to enhance transportation convenience.
Additionally, to ensure smooth operation of the emergency shuttle buses, the district has provided guidance to reduce confusion among residents, such as posting shuttle bus operation notices and route maps at each bus stop.
Detailed information can be found on the Songpa District website, social media, and on the notices posted at each bus stop.
Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "We have established an emergency transportation plan connecting local subway stations to minimize inconvenience for residents caused by the suspension of city bus operations," and added, "The district will mobilize all administrative resources to prioritize user safety and do its utmost to support emergency transportation vehicles and resolve residents' transportation inconveniences."
