Kick-off Meeting Held for Basic and Detailed Design Service for Cluster Development
Blue Valley National Industrial Complex to Establish Korea's Largest Demonstration Infrastructure
On May 27, Pohang City took its first step toward establishing a core foundation for the creation of a hydrogen-specialized complex by holding a kick-off meeting for the "Basic and Detailed Design Service for the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cluster Site" in the main conference room at Pohang City Hall.
This meeting served as the practical starting point for the hydrogen fuel cell cluster development project, sharing future tasks such as ▲ analysis of the current status of the project site and ▲ changes to the urban management plan and the basic management plan for the industrial complex.
In addition, discussions were held among relevant departments regarding key issues for the establishment of the hydrogen fuel cell cluster, and ways to collaborate were explored.
The "Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cluster" will be the largest hydrogen industry-specialized complex in Korea, constructed on a site of approximately 280,000 square meters within the Pohang Blue Valley National Industrial Complex, with a project budget of 191.8 billion won. It will consist of three cores: ▲ business agglomeration, ▲ parts and materials performance evaluation, and ▲ fuel cell demonstration.
The business agglomeration core aims to attract around 30 companies related to hydrogen and fuel cells, while the parts and materials performance evaluation core will house a Hydrogen Open Innovation Center and a Fuel Cell Evaluation Center.
The fuel cell demonstration core is planned to be equipped with Korea's top-level infrastructure, capable of simultaneously demonstrating fuel cell systems developed by resident companies with a capacity of up to 4 MW.
The city plans to complete administrative procedures and site and architectural designs by the second half of this year, and to begin construction by the end of the year.
In particular, Pohang City intends to establish a practical and competitive foundation based on the results of a demand survey conducted among companies planning to move in.
Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, stated, "With this kick-off meeting, the implementation plan for establishing the hydrogen fuel cell industrial ecosystem has officially begun. We will swiftly lay the foundation for urban planning and create a specialized complex that meets the needs of businesses, making Pohang a leading city in the future hydrogen economy."
Once the cluster is completed, it is expected to attract about 30 companies, create more than 10,000 jobs, and generate a production inducement effect of over 800 billion won, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
