Daegu Jung-gu to Recruit 20 New Alley Culture Guides in Foreign Languages and Arts

Jung-gu District Office in Daegu (headed by Ryu Kyuhwa) announced on May 27 that it will newly recruit and train alley culture guides specializing in foreign languages and the arts. This initiative aims to respond to the surge in foreign tourist demand following the designation of Dongseongno as a special tourist zone and to strengthen alley tourism content.

This project is being implemented to enhance professional interpretation capabilities regarding the region's historical and cultural assets and to provide customized interpretation services befitting Daegu's status as a global tourist city. The district will recruit 20 individuals (approximately 15 for foreign languages and 5 for the arts) who are capable of providing interpretation in major foreign languages such as English and Chinese, as well as in performing and visual arts.

Selected candidates will undergo a total of 50 hours of training, field practice, and demonstration evaluation between June and July, and will be officially appointed on July 29.

Through this new recruitment, the existing system of 75 guides (covering Korean, foreign languages, visually impaired, sign language, and arts) will be supplemented. The newly trained guides are expected to be deployed at tourist information centers and on alley tours, thereby further enhancing the quality and satisfaction of interpretation services for foreign tourists.

Ryu Kyuhwa, head of Jung-gu District Office in Daegu, stated, "As the needs of foreign tourists and individual travelers visiting Jung-gu continue to diversify, we will strengthen interpretation capabilities in multiple languages and cultural arts through this training program, and work toward establishing a sustainable tourism ecosystem."
