Main Ingredient: Terbinafine Hydrochloride
Hanmi Pharm announced on May 27 that it has launched "Mujonal Max External Solution," a topical treatment for onychomycosis (nail fungus) containing terbinafine hydrochloride.
Currently, most topical treatments for onychomycosis available in Korea use ciclopirox as their main ingredient. In contrast, Hanmi Pharm's "Mujonal Max External Solution" is a first generic topical treatment for onychomycosis that uses a different main ingredient, terbinafine hydrochloride.
Antifungal agents can develop resistance issues, similar to antibiotics, when the same ingredient is used for an extended period, which can reduce treatment efficacy. However, Mujonal Max External Solution was developed using terbinafine hydrochloride instead of the conventional ciclopirox, making it a new alternative for patients who have developed resistance to existing treatments.
One of its key advantages is its convenient dosing regimen, which greatly improves patient usability. Mujonal Max External Solution is applied once daily for the first four weeks, and then only once a week thereafter.
Mujonal Max External Solution is distributed to pharmacies nationwide and is classified as an over-the-counter medication, allowing consumers to purchase it directly from pharmacies without a prescription.
