Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 27 that it has created a dog playground in Nakseongdae Neighborhood Park (523 Baekhyeon-dong, Bundang-gu), which will open on May 31.

Over the past year and six months, Seongnam City invested 160 million won to build a 1,083-square-meter (328 pyeong) dog playground in Nakseongdae Park, near the Seongnam Anti-Japanese Volunteer Monument.

The Nakseongdae Park dog playground is divided based on a body height of 40 centimeters: dogs taller than this use the large dog area (480 square meters), while those at or below this height use the small and medium dog area (450 square meters).

Each area features coarse sand (masato) on the ground, as well as seven benches, five round benches, and drinking fountains for both dog owners and their pets.

Additionally, the large dog and small/medium dog playgrounds are surrounded by a 1.5-meter-high wire fence, and a 2.4-meter-wide, 20-meter-long mat (palm mat) has been laid in the central passageway to create a walkway.

The Nakseongdae Park dog playground is open 24 hours a day, and only registered dogs accompanied by owners aged 13 or older are allowed entry.

With the opening of the Nakseongdae Park dog playground, the total number of dog playgrounds in Seongnam has increased to nine.

The existing dog playgrounds are located at: Hwangsong Park, Jungang Park, Yuldong Park, near Tancheon Taepyeong Sujin Rest Area, near Tancheon Yatap Sasonggyo, near Tancheon Jeongja Gungnaegyo, near Tancheon Gumi Water Playground, and Unjungcheon in Sampyeong-dong.

There are 71,232 registered dogs in Seongnam City.

The opening ceremony for the Nakseongdae Park dog playground will be held at 2:30 p.m. on May 31, with Mayor Shin Sang-jin of Seongnam and about 50 local residents in attendance.

Mayor Shin Sang-jin stated, "The Nakseongdae Park dog playground will become a safe and pleasant space for citizens and their pets, as well as a new local landmark."
