IBM Unveils Intelligent Storage Solutions to Meet the Demands of AI Proliferation

Sam Warner Visits Korea for Media Roundtable
Unveils IBM's Next-Generation Data Infrastructure Strategy

IBM has unveiled its data infrastructure strategy and next-generation storage portfolio to help companies effectively manage their data in response to the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI).

Sam Warner, Vice President of IBM Storage, stated at a media roundtable held at the International Finance Center (IFC) in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 27th, "We are entering an era where we both consume and generate data, leading to an exponential increase in data volume," and added, "The rise of generative AI is fundamentally changing the paradigm of data utilization."

Warner diagnosed that the spread of AI has increased the 'complexity' of data quality, security, and management. He explained that more than half of global companies, about 56%, are not achieving their desired outcomes from AI adoption, and are suffering annual losses of around $400 million due to data quality issues.

He emphasized, "In the AI era, storage must be an active platform with built-in data intelligence, not just a simple storage space," and stressed that the need for an integrated infrastructure with both performance and scalability is growing.

IBM is envisioning infrastructure that can efficiently run AI in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Through 'IBM Fusion,' an AI-optimized storage platform, the company aims to reduce data management costs and support regulatory compliance frameworks. The content-aware storage (CAS) solution unveiled by IBM goes beyond the traditional role of storage media, providing an intelligent storage solution that analyzes data as well.

On this day, IBM also introduced cases of infrastructure transformation by Korean companies. Video analysis AI ad-tech startup Piler adopted the 'IBM SSS3500,' leveraging compatibility with NVIDIA DGX B200 to enhance AI model inference efficiency in a container environment. The Seoul Welfare Foundation and the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage established a stable and flexible service operation foundation for large-scale user access through the 'IBM FlashSystem.'

Park Daesung, Executive Director of Storage Business at IBM Korea, said, "As Korean companies accelerate AI adoption and digital transformation, the importance of data infrastructure is increasing," and added, "IBM will provide customized storage solutions as an integrated platform encompassing data creation, processing, storage, management, and analysis."
