"From Classroom to the World"... Jeonnam 2030 Teachers Practice Glocal Education

Visiting Seven Countries Including Australia, Germany, and Malaysia

Teachers from the Jeonnam region are visiting educational sites around the world, including Australia, Canada, and Germany, to explore ways to innovate classroom instruction and implement glocal (Global+Local) education.

On May 27, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced that it will officially launch the '2030 International Education Exchange' program for 207 teachers in the province. This initiative aims to establish an international cooperation foundation to drive the transformation of classroom instruction in Jeonnam, and to serve as a stepping stone for creating a sustainable educational ecosystem.

The provincial office selected a total of 46 teams through an open call: 5 teams from early childhood education, 23 from elementary schools, and 18 from secondary schools. The participating teachers are all members of instructional research groups focused on the '2030 Classroom' and have already completed training to strengthen their instructional innovation capabilities in the first half of the year.

The teachers will carry out a variety of tasks, including joint classes with overseas schools, collecting glocal education case studies, and participating in international education conferences. They will continue to learn and collaborate directly at educational sites worldwide. The exchange destinations include Australia, Canada, Singapore, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Germany, and the United Kingdom, all of which are countries participating in the '2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo.'

In particular, the team visiting Malaysia will conduct a joint class using "The Box of Tears," a work by Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang, as a medium. Korean and Malaysian students will be able to empathize with each other's emotions and sentiments through literature, demonstrating the potential for education that transcends borders.

The outcomes of this international education exchange will be shared with local residents at the '2030 Classroom Festival' to be held on November 22. Each team will produce and release videos documenting their exchange process, and will present vivid case studies covering everything from preparation and implementation to follow-up activities for the joint classes.

Superintendent Kim Daejung said, "Teachers from Jeonnam are raising the profile of Korean education on the global stage while expanding points of contact with global education. I hope this international exchange will foster multicultural sensitivity among students, and enhance glocal education competencies and pride among teachers."
